Choose how Screenchart runs your captures
Both keep your data on your machine. Use a CLI agent you already have, or connect a provider with your own key.
Set up a Local CLI
Screenchart detects supported CLIs on your PATH, you select one, and it stores your choice. No key to paste, the agent you already use handles each capture.
-
1
Install a supported CLI agent
If you do not already have one, install a supported agent. Click any agent to open its official install docs:

-
2
Open the Local CLI settings
Go to settingsSettings›Execution mode›Local CLI
-
3
Let Screenchart scan your PATH
Screenchart scans your PATH and lists the CLIs it detects.
Just installed one and don't see it? Click Rescan to detect it.
-
4
Select, choose a model, and Test
Pick a detected CLI, choose a model, and click Test to confirm it runs. Once the test passes, you're ready to capture.
Bring your own key (BYOK)
Prefer to use an API key? Connect a provider directly and Screenchart calls it with your key. Supported providers:

-
1
Get an API key from your provider
Create a key in your provider's dashboard using the links above. For Gateway, you'll use your endpoint URL instead of a hosted key.
-
2
Open the BYOK settings
Go to settingsSettings›Execution mode›Bring your own key
-
3
Pick a provider, paste your key, and Test
Choose a provider, paste your key, then click Test to connect. A passing test confirms the provider and model are reachable.
If something needs adjusting
Common fixes and how to change your mode at any time.
Switch anytime
Change your CLI or key in Settings › Execution mode. Nothing is locked in.
CLI not detected
Confirm it's installed and on your PATH, then click Rescan.
Test fails on BYOK
Re-check the key and that the provider and model are available on your plan.
macOS capture permission
If captures come back blank, grant Screen Recording in System Settings.
